The accessory you thought you’d never have again
Remember the dusty silk ivy plants of the early 90’s? We tucked them everywhere – cabinet tops, end tables, bookshelves, you get the picture. And many of us, as we pulled down the dusty faded greens, said “never again” (myself included) until I changed my mind after our trip to High Point this fall.
#3 on our Top Ten Trends is silk greenery. As unbelievable as it is, greens are back and in a whole new way. We can’t wait to start incorporating these accents into our jobs!
From a Composition Perspective
The silk greens of today are much more lifelike - and mixed with other textural pieces create beautiful organic pops of green that can light up today’s gray interiors. Even the silk flowers are sneaking back in – but in a more elegant neutral composition.
What these accessories do for your design composition is add texture and contrast.
Accessories are the jewelry of the room and (although not always fair) can steal the show from the more expensive background investment pieces.
And don’t forget the trees…
Now this is a perfect example of something that has been reinvented and updated 20 years later.
This does not give you permission to resurrect your tree from the 90’s (please tell me its long gone) – and if you have one of these below, it still has to go!
1990’s version – OUT!
Replace it with the new updated look of a Fig leaf tree.
Admittedly, this was a tough one for me to get my arms around. Didn’t love it at first, but then I started to notice, little by little, these pretty trees sneaking into high end interior design photos. It didn’t matter, contemporary or traditional the fig leaf trees were there.
Here’s a beautiful living room– see what is framing this beautiful composition? Keep your eyes open for the fig leaf trees – they’re everywhere!
Pam and I agree on this one – this is one of the most exciting accessory trends out there!
